What’s going on dumbbell daddies? So it’s Friday again. It’s been an interesting week. This week I talked about how not to blow your health and fitness goals while travelling. It’s important to give ourselves a break every now and then. If you’re trying to stay on track with your health and fitness goals there’s no reason why you can’t when you’re travelling. After flying airplanes and travelling for many years, I’ve listed some of the ways I stay in shape on the road.
Monday was actually a pretty busy day. We ended up spending the morning in the ER. The big idiot that I am, sliced my hand open and needed a few stitches. Jesus, my mother always told me to be careful with knives. Well I guess I won’t be lifting any heavy barbels anytime soon…which really sucks. The doctor also told me I need to take it easy but I’m hoping to get back in the gym soon to at least start doing some push-ups, sit-ups and squats. Hey there…could be another post idea?
Anyways here’s this weeks latest from around the blogosphere:
I love eating meat, especially Beef. Maybe it’s my inner caveman but I could eat meat all day every day. When I first met my wife she didn’t eat a lot of meat and I didn’t eat a lot of vegetables. I got her to eat more steak and chicken and she got me to eat more broccoli and lettuce. We definitely compliment each other. If you’re a meat lover like myself and hate your brussels sprouts, Marc Halpern at Breaking Muscle listed 5 simple ways for meat lovers to eat more vegetables.
Ever wonder how many calories pole dancing burns? No seriously? What about yoga, lifting weights, rock climbing or CrossFit? Dai Manuel over at The Moose Is Loose posted a neat infographic breaking down how many calories the average person burns doing these popular exercises. While discovering pole dancing is actually healthy for you, it’s important to remember it doesn’t matter what you do. As long as you get up and move instead of sitting on the couch all day watching Netflix.
Anyone here trying to build muscle? Getting ready for next summer’s gun show? Mark Sisson at Mark’s Daily Apple wrote about 10 things you shouldn’t do if you’re trying to build muscle. Over the years I’ve been guilty of doing a few of these myself. For those who don’t know who Mark Sisson is, he’s one ripped mofo.
He’s in his 60’s and he has the body of a 30 year-old. He attributes this to living his life like the way our ancestor did. And NO he’s not one of these new age hippies living in makeshift cave or trailer. The dude lives in Malibu. I would highly recommend you check out his blog. It’s a wealth of information.
The fitness industry is pretty messed up. There’s so much noise out there. Low carb, high carb? High intensity low intensity? Eggs are good for you one week, eggs are bad for you the other! “If you want abs and biceps like mine…buy my program NOW!.” Fuck off. Who do we listen to? Everyone seems like an expert trainer on the internet. Tanner Baze summed up the fitness industry pretty well:
“Fitness industry, we suck. We suck so bad it’s laughable. We’re an industry full of douches who post shirtless photos, and promote the fact that if you’re a female who succeeds you need to get half naked and post ass shots on Instagram”
My comment on his article went something like this:
“I started my health and fitness blog as a hobby to show other dad’s you don’t need the latest diet, pre-workout supplement or equipment to get in shape. How can a single 23 year old on Trenbolone, posting ab selfies, possibly “coach” or advise a 45 year old working dad with 3 kids? Really?”
It’s amazing how there’s never been more online coaching, diet books, and health information available at our finger tips, yet society is getting fatter and fatter every year! Something is not working here, and it might have to do with the people we’re getting our information from. Anyone here a fan of sport coats? Love em or hate em? Whenever I heard the word ‘sport coat’ I would think of:
- My father
- A 1970’s bearded hippie university professor with elbow patches and cords!
Shows how much I know about fashion eh? Well since some of us are looking to update our fall wardrobe this article by Brett and Kate at the Art of Manliness couldn’t of come at a better time. How to Wear a Sports Jacket With Jeans.
