So a bit of history. Growing up I was always a big kid. Usually one of the taller, chubbier kids in the class with the broad shoulders. You know…that kid that usually stands on the end of the class picture while everyone else is seated all nicely with their hands on their laps. Growing up I played a lot of sports through school and all my coaches loved me because of my size. I was big but I was also athletic. That started changing as soon as I entered high school. In high school I quickly realized the leash I had in elementary school suddenly got a bit longer.
Having multiple breaks meant I could walk to the convenience store and grab a coke and a bag of chips. A longer lunch hour meant I could now walk down to McDonalds and grab a combo. No one was really keeping an eye on me like they had in elementary school. That quickly snowballed as soon as I got my driver’s licence and got an even longer leash. Growing up in an Italian household didn’t help the situation either. Italian’s have strong family values and usually everything in the house revolves around the kitchen and food. You don’t just eat a meal……..you experience it. My parent’s eventually started getting on my case (lovingly though) about my weight gain but I still had my blinders on. I kept making excuses to myself like “Oh it’s just baby fat, I’ll grow out of it”. As the days rolled on, more clothes kept getting thrown out, I ballooned to my heaviest….285lbs. It all changed one summer afternoon when I was home alone watching TV…..
Keep the blue side up.
